Malcolm is first internship student that come to study together with Environmental Law Clinic, Chiang Mai University (ELC CMU) during mid of May to late November 2025. He is bachelor’s degree in philosophy, University of Victoria. He deeply passionate about relationship between human and animals. So when he went to field trips on ELC class both in Kaboedin village, Omkoi district and Nong Tao village, Maewang district in Chiang Mai. He’s always observe any animals and bugs that he found in wild. And didn’t miss to greeting them. He’s energized person and often learn to more understand diversity of culture and context both in local and city in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
On his internship, he done this case study work that focus on the roll of indigenous people compare between Karen people in Kaboedin and Nong Tao village in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Lekwungen and Wet’suwet’en people in British Colombia (BC), Canada.
On this article has two part. Firstly is Malcolm’ part, he illustrate the negative effects that unsustainable resource extraction has on Indigenous ways of life and show examples of how Indigenous communities tend to live in reciprocity with their land and use environmentally sound practices. He describe through historical, environmental and moral perspective.
Secondly is Siriphat’s part, he will show the Thai and Canada legal stuff that relevance on dispute in Kaboedin and Nong Tao village, Thailand and Lekwungen and Wet’suwet’en in BC, Canada by emphasize indigenous people rights and legal mechanism that there are.
